About The Necropolitan

A Space for Radical Compassion

The Necropolitan is a digital museum, archive, and hangout space dedicated to the study of modern expiration. Founded and curated by a deathcare practitioner, this is a site for the forensic, the philosophical, and the deeply human.

Whether we are discussing the "death" of a 1980s shopping mall or the intimate rituals of pet loss, we operate under one guiding principle: The end of life deserves a space of radical compassion.

The Scope of the Collection

We do not separate the "death" of a building from the death of a beloved companion. Both leave behind a vacuum that requires a witness. Our exhibits cover:

  • The Memento Mori of the Mundane: Deep-dives into urban decay, "bricked" technology, and the ghosts of the digital enclosure.
  • The New Mourners: Showcasing the artisans of the modern wake—taxidermists, glassworkers, and the creators of handmade urns who turn grief into tangible beauty.
  • The Practice of Departure: Insights from the front lines of deathcare, from "extreme embalming" to the gentle chemistry of aquamation.
  • The Philosophy of the End: Exploring how we remember, why we forget, and how we can better "sit with" the inevitability of loss.

The Curator (Me)

I am not a historian or a traditional academic. I am a practitioner of the "final transition." My day-to-day is spent in the quiet, necessary work of honoring those who have passed. This museum is my attempt to bring that same level of care to the cultural desiderata we often discard.

The Columbarium (The Community)

"Meet people like you" isn't a marketing hook; it's an invitation to a wake. The Necropolitan features an integrated forum for those who find meaning in the "Out of Business" sign and the memorial curio alike. It is a space for curators of the obsolete and students of the end.
